NEED4B Project will develop

an open and easily replicable methodology for designing, constructing, and operating very low energy new buildings, aiming to a large market uptake.

Welcome to NEED4B

A EU-FP7 collaborative project that will demonstrate cost-effective and energy efficient technologies and methods for the design, construction and operation of very low energy new buildings. A series of pilots located in different European climates will show how to achieve a primary energy consumption lower than 60 kWh/m2 year in the buildings.

Aiming to ensure replicability of project results, NEED4B will also deliver an open methodology for designing, constructing and operating very low energy new buildings, laying the ground for a large market uptake.

Nowadays buildings are responsable for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions in the EU. In order to drastically reduce these numbers, in 2010 the European Commission established that all new buildings must be nearly zero energy buildings by the year 2020.

In this context, the European research project NEE4B was born. People from 5 cities of Europe, including architects, engineers and researchers and developers came together to design, construct and operate very low energy buildings.
